Surround Me Recap

IMG_3694Do you have more time to read while under stay at home or shelter in place mandate? Things are crazy, far from normal for most of us. As I wrote my Revolutionary Series, I could only imagine the abnormalities, inconveniences, awkward, scary, and disruptive day to day life. Although, I don’t feel threatened by war with fighting, bullets, and cannon, I do face, as you do, a physical threat. And, a threat to my way of life. The good is that I have slowed down, enjoying my garden, reading more, writing more, eating better, and cherishing my loved ones (without touching them.)

In Surround Me, Elizabeth and Louis are facing something on the horizon that they have not experienced before. Sound familiar? There were no answers, just preparation for what might happen. “Battles rage in Elizabeth Elliott’s heart as the threat of war invades her hometown.”Surround Me front (1)

An excerpt from the first page of the novel:

Bordeaux, France, June 1773

His hands tightly gripped the railing, turning his knuckles a startling white compared to his wind-chapped and tanned skin. The pressure in his grasp mimicked the turmoil in his head. Louis Lestarjette’s gaze lifted to a sea of deep-blue waves. Charles Town and any semblance of land had disappeared weeks ago. Why the upheaval now when he had already had weeks to prepare for his journey and his family reunion? Could a prodigal son truly go back home? How would he be received? The same questions rolled over and over in his head.

If he had made a mistake, he would never forgive himself. All the what-ifs jumbled in his mind, tumbling into compartments he thought he’d closed in order to keep away doubts and insecurities. Where was the peace he had claimed? The voyage was a necessity for business, for the colony of South Carolina, and for his family. He had determined even after the first five weeks on the ocean that his love for Elizabeth Elliott would only increase with time.

So, they enter a period with a crazy new normal. Sound familiar? One reviewer for Draw Me to Your Side remarks about the eerie similarities to what we are going through now–a revolution of sorts.

About the Book

Book:  Vengeance is Mine Saith Mi’Lord

Author: Tammy Kirby

Genre:  Inspirational Victorian Romance

Release Date: October 9, 2019

A SISTER FOR A SISTER

Forced into a peer’s realm. Devastated by the death of his beloved sister. With vengeance burning a hole in his heart, will a distraught brother see the damage he’s causing in time to prevent the worst mistake of his life?

Kidnapped for a crime she didn’t commit. Ostracized from society. Can a broken debutante find the peace she craves at Haven House, or must she face her monsters over a ballroom—again?

Captain Nick Rutherford vows revenge against the man who murdered his sister. When the coward escapes, Nick discovers a way to flush him out. Never mind that what he proposes goes against everything he believes in.

Lady Piper Connor faces society’s whispers with her head high. When Captain Rutherford, the new Marquess of Blackwell, forces her to spend the night in his townhouse, she wants to hide in shame—for a moment. Is it wrong to feel relief when one is cast out of society?

Squaring her shoulders, she steps into the morning wearing the same clothes she’d worn to a ball the previous evening. Let them stare.

Join these two hurting people as they walk through overwhelming obstacles to find forgiveness and each other.

God loves her unconditionally, and that is enough. If only a certain marquess didn’t plague her thoughts.

My Review

The author continues the drama of sexual slavery in the 19th century. The characters experience some horrendous situations before rescue. I am touched to tears at times with the introduction of children whose lives are touched by abuse. Without God’s love and strength, many women and children, both in the past and the present, would be scarred for life with no hope of deliverance.

The idea of Haven House, a place of refuge, inspires the characters to do wonderful things for others less fortunate or in desperate situations. Through the words of the author, I’m inspired to be conscious of the current crime involving sex trafficking and similar offences. I look forward to the fourth book in the series—Hunt for Grace.

About the Author

Tammy Kirby holds an associate degree in Registered Nursing, a cosmetology license, and the title of author. When she’s not helping heal the sick, or dabbling in color, you can find her at her computer, giving life to the characters clamoring inside her head to be set free.

In 2018 she released her debut novel, His Grace Forgiven, the first book in the Victorian Inspirational Romance series, Haven House. She developed a love for reading at a young age. Beauty and the Beast is her favorite fairytale, and I Love Lucy her favorite tv show from childhood. That being said, you’ll always find one of her characters having some of the same characteristics in Tammy’s works.

She uses her writing to show God’s love and forgiveness through characters from hundreds of years in the past, who face the same problems people face today. Taking broken heroes and heroines and showing them this truth is her mission.

Tammy lives with her husband, Roger in Northeast Louisiana, where she spends her free time doting on grandchildren, reading, crocheting, sewing and, of course, writing about how the Lord can take any sin, no matter how bad and turn it into a blessing to glorify Him. Her desire is for her writing to speak to her readers in a way that draws them closer to the One who loves them above all.

More from Tammy

When God placed the Haven House series on my heart and instructed me to put them on paper, I asked Him why me? He said because you’re not afraid to write what I tell you even if it’s uncomfortable. This entire series deals with forgiveness in some form or another. Can you forgive the unforgivable? What happens if you can’t?

As an avid reader, my favorite books are those I can apply to real life—my life. I will read almost any genre, but historical romance is my preference. My characters are flawed, even the Christian ones. In my writing I use them to show the world that God can fix anything we get ourselves into—if we ask.

Vengeance is Mine saith Mi’Lord is the third book in a series of five. One day I was sitting at my kitchen table working on the second book, when a handsome ship’s captain waltzed across the room. I knew then, Captain Rutherford would have his own story.

Because of hurtful circumstances, my hero, Nick acts completely out of character. Even though he doesn’t like himself for it, he can’t seem to stop the emotional carriage wreck he’s causing himself at the expense of my heroine, Piper. Throw in a cat named Satan whose alter-ego is Angel (according to my heroine), a cabin boy with a secret, a murder coverup, and you have all the makings for a fulfilling read.

I hope you enjoy Nick and Piper’s story. I certainly enjoyed bringing them to life for you.

Happy Mothering Day!

IMG_3919
A bouquet for you!

Happy Mothering Day, this Sunday March 22! This is a UK celebration of mothers and those who play that role, equivalent to our Mother’s Day in May. So, this year I’m going to bring a little cheer to the beginning of this Spring season, cheer amidst the uncertainty. Perhaps, you can find a way to celebrate a woman in your life–a mother, a friend, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother. I like the sound of “Mothering Day.”

When I lived in England, Mothering Day was celebrated, and I experienced my first taste of the celebration. Years later, while traveling in England in March, the tradition popped up again when I saw cards, candy, flowers, and posters advertising the important remembrance of mothers.

IMG_3715The origin of Mothering Sunday began in the Middle Ages. It appears that children who didn’t live with their families because of work in domestic service were allowed to return to their home church or “mother church.” At first it had no ties to maternal relationships.  Through time the custom changed to encompass a spring occasion for families to come together. Children picked flowers as a gift for their mothers. Each year it falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, three weeks before Easter.

Blessings to you and yours on this Mothering Sunday! May you find reasons to celebrate!  IMG_3811

Extra Time to Read?

At this time of social distancing, I gravitate towards reading. Since I’m a teacher, I have many hours to fill. The writing project I wanted to start in June, I’m starting now! It’s exciting in a world full of fears and uncertainties. So I’m delving into eighteenth century France during the reign of Louis XV. The information is part of my new work in progress set in 1747 at le Château de Chenonceau.

If you need something to read, consider starting, continuing, or reading one or all of my Revolutionary Faith novels.

What are you reading now? I’m reading A Pursuit of Home by Kristi Hunter and Vengeance is Mine Saith Mi’Lord by Tammy Kirby.

My Spring TBR books

IMG_3737Well, it’s not quite spring, but I’m ready to begin my wonderful list of novels. Two new authors to me are included which I always love. Most of the reads are historical fiction, with only one contemporary novel and one time travel story. Join me with reading some of these titles. If not, please tell me what you are reading or what you want to read.

A Pursuit of Home by Kristi Ann Hunter is set in 1816 England.

Canary Island Song by Robin Jones Gunn is my contemporary choice because of the exotic destination.

Fawkes by Nadine Brandes takes place in 1604 England.

Friends and Foes by Sarah M. Eden follows the Jonquil brothers in 1814 England.

The Captive Heart by Michelle Griep takes the reader to 1770 South Carolina.

IMG_3742Evermore by Jody Hedlund is about a fairy tale princess.

The Next Forever by F.E. Greene is a time travel book–so excited about this book.

The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen by Syrie James sounds so interesting!

Do any of these novels sound exciting? Leave a comment about what you are reading now.

Best Friends in Novels and Life

best friends 2Do you have a best friend? Or best friends? There’s probably that person from grammar school or that you played with since preschool. Or a high school bestie. I can’t forget my college crew and then the ones from church and my adult life as I moved around. Still out of all the possibilities, I only have a few that are really my best friends–huge blessings in my life!

elizabeth and charlotte in p and p (2)In my novels in the Revolutionary Faith Series, my heroine has a best friend, one she met when she moved from Boston to Charles Town. So, their friendship is only a few years old but strong and permanent. Although they share some common characteristics, the young women have different temperaments, goals, and dreams. Remember Elizabeth and Charlotte from Pride and Prejudice?

darcy and bingleyHow about Darcy and Bingley? My hero Louis crosses an ocean with not one friend to welcome him in the New World. He does make a quick business partner friend and connects with Samuel, who becomes his confidant. These men stick by Louis and become as close as brothers in a short time.

best friendsWhether for years or for days, friends make a difference in our lives. I’m thankful for the ones who accept me just as I am and want the best for me. Not to say, friends don’t have their moments of honest words or criticism but usually words meant to help and improve the friendship and the individuals.

I hope you enjoy the friendships between Elizabeth and Sarah and Louis and Samuel.

Do you have a best friend? For how long? For my best friends out there, I’m thankful for your continued influence on my life.
