Do you like reading fiction that has a protagonist with siblings? Well, I do probably because I have three sisters who are now my best friends. I’m sure some people who do not have siblings have friends or cousins who are as close as sisters or brothers. Anyway, I love reading and writing about the dynamics of family. Siblings expand the depth of the characters. I know my siblings have added levels of purpose and blessings to my life.
I have a motto for my siblings–From cradle to grave. I read that somewhere years ago and have found it to be so very true. We shared our nursery years, and we are in this life together until death. Our journey is forever linked. My sisters have added other sayings that appear on my shelves. Here are two: “Back off! I have a sister and I’m not afraid to use her.” “Sister love isn’t made out of cupcakes and glitter. More like steel and a set of snow tires. It went the extra mile a long while back, and it’s not going to quit. Not tomorrow, not ever.”
Therefore, in my novels I like to throw in a few siblings to spice things up a bit. In the Revolutionary Faith series, Elizabeth has an older sister Anne and a younger brother George. Can you guess which one gives her more trouble? I won’t tell. She also has a best friend Sarah who steps in as a sister, sharing the bond as sisters do.
Louis, in the same series, has two brothers in France. Being the middle child, he finds an ocean apart is the best way to exist with his brothers. Only through time will the rifts begin to mend.
In fiction my favorite sisters are the March girls from Little Women–four sisters facing the world. I can relate. And I wouldn’t change a thing about my own sisters! True darlings with extremely loving and forgiving hearts.

How does a story society benefit the anonymously invited participants? These reluctant, seemingly randomly selected people decide to gather each week to figure out the purpose. Although a difficult task, the author develops five main characters. Eventually, they bring their imperfect lives and problems to their safe circle of acquaintances. Can they become friends and discern the purpose of their group? With no guidelines, the men and women struggle with the idea of opening up to each other.
Real life is exposed in this original format and plot. I feel the loneliness, frustration, bitterness, anger, failure, ambition, and impatience working alongside love, forgiveness, success, friendship, marriage, family, and hope. It makes me want to be invited to a secret society, especially in an old library surround by ancient volumes of antique books.
This novel is a treasure of stories about hope and God’s plans for our futures even considering our not so inviting pasts.

Let’s start with the dashing Frenchman, Louis Lestarjette. Well, of course the hero would be dashing and handsome. He is twenty-six, five-foot-eleven, with olive skin, dark hair, and blue eyes. And did I mention French! Straight off the ship, he lands in Charles Town with no other purpose than to make a profit. Confident, self-motivated, unattached, wandering, unsettled, educated, fashionable. A man of ideas, fleeing the strings of family and an older brother. Oops, he lands in a city of unrest which is definitely not part of his plans, neither is Elizabeth Elliott.
Why not choose Jamie to portray Louis! It’s fine with me to have this handsome man play a Frenchman!
So, Elizabeth Elliott is the daughter of a Loyalist family originally from Boston and now of Charles Town. A beautiful eighteen-year-old finds herself with beliefs contradicting her father. What’s a girl to do? She is an elegant five-foot-five with light brown curly hair and blue-gray eyes. Schooled in music and the education of young society girls, she has her heart set on a family of her own with a love-match if possible. Not a revolution, nor a Frenchman, existing far from a believer’s purpose. I ask again, what’s a girl to do? Now, if the image above of Jamie faced me every day…it makes it even harder.
Every Jamie needs a Claire. They’d make a fine Louis and Elizabeth, don’t you think?
